Gobi Wildlife Safari
The
Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park is located in the northern edge
of the Gobi desert, approximately 550km south of Ulaanbaatar.
The landscape is dominated by mountain ranges that are part of
the Gobi Altai which provide an extremely varied mixture of terrain:
sandy and rocky desert plains, precipitous cliffs, salt pans and
oases. Gobi Gurvansaikhan includes the highest diversity of plant
and animal life in the Gobi Altai, including Argarli wild
sheep, Asiatic Ibex , Khulan or Asiatic Wild Ass,
Gazelle and Snow Leopard (Uncia uncia) is
found in the mountain region. Saksaul forest exists only
in central Asia and is an important vegetation feature in the
National Park.
On this expedition we journey by Jeep to the Gobi Gurvansaikhan,
stopping to observe the wildlife in reserves along the way including
Bag Gazryn Chuluu, Nomgon, Yolyn Am, Khongoriin Els. Our journey
is completed by making a loop up to the Khangai Mountains and
the ancient capital Karakorum to complement the desert scenery.
